>mr nice< features snippets of howard marks which are interlaced with clattering breakbeats and booming sub bass. while we are sure howard would approve of a late night after party session, for many this will be the soundtrack to what happens before they leave the club! label boss steppa and his co-producer kitcha provide an excellent aa side which harks back to the classic formation records era. splicing in cheeky samples lifted from anthems of old and twisting them into something brand new, this one is just as fearsome on the dancefloor.

roberto bosco is a young italian producer with a short but highly impressive discography, citing labels such as samuel l. sessions klap klap, orlando voorns night vision and len fakis figure. lately, he has released on be as one, an israeli imprint thats attracted the tastes of loco dice, gui boratto, kate simko, agoria and gummihz. claudio mate has an unique kind of sound: there is something like classic atmospheres expressed into new spine-tingle grooves, a deep-cosmic-solid journey or more simply just the trip of his life story. claudio mate got the respect of such names like the godfather of techno music juan atkins (for him claudio remixed >game one< previously licensed on the legendary metroplex), orlando voorn, francois k, derrick may and manuel gottsching. the swedish techno heads like adam beyer, samuel l session, joel mull always supported him since the first projects. mate & bosco together are abstract souls, a new project set up to develop their deepest sound. >abstract souls ep< is their first release under their new moniker and contains 4 deep techno tracks, solid techno grooves infused with dark dubby atmospherics and cosmic influenced rhythms.

after several hot tunes on worthy’s anabatic imprint, birminghams tom flynn joins the ranks of the dirtybird crew. i ve battle tested the a-side of this record all around the world. >catch that bird< is a rare mix of deep rooted funk whilst also sounding like a caribbean jungle track pitched down to 126. my favorite!
i d play this ep just on the strength of the a-side but i feel like a lot of attention will also be given to the b-side called >rhode island<. this is a classic piece of deep house with all the melodic elements of a dirtybird jam.
tom sent me at least 7 tracks before i signed these so the guy is certainly prolific and i expect to hear quite a bit more from this up and comer this year.

it is about time for a record from label founder dario zenker. dont ask why it took so long, but be sure it wasnt the last one. and what a record this is, after several great releases on labels like vakant, harry klein records or time to express, dario’s debut on his own imprint is another example for his unique and mature sound. his studio just as his music has grown over the years. 10 am sounds like an earthquake, raw and dirty, it builds up so much energy that even babensham starts to shake. farrel on the other side is best described as deep break beat techno. it shows the diversity of darios productions and diversity combined with a certain signature is a great mix in our opinion. so enjoy it or not, dance or put your hands in your pockets, share some love or be a hater, no matter what we like u.

we again two flying something objects are located in the orbit, waiting for permission to land on your turntables and in the lay-by of your recordbag. this time with 13 pieces of stl deep shakin house madness, mindscratching lo-fi grooves, cranky energized synth activities, dope loops and sound effects. all pressed on a delicious double vinyl album with a limited printing of 500 covers! the music is all hardware based and sequenced. recorded in live sessions without any computer arrangements. surely the style is not for everyone and compared to others, probably seems a bit unconform, cat-headed or sometimes just different. but it s always true spiritual. an open minded artform with the sense for functionality. every track is talking to you in musical form without any barriers straight down to your feet and feeling. as in all something releases there is much sound personality and imagination inside, giving the listener a ticket to the fascinating world of beat orientated something music. get on board and enjoy the trip.

it’s with a lot of excitement that archipel’s boss himself releases a vinyl extract of his album’s favorite tracks. while the album which consist of 2 cds, we thought some of the works would fit well in the hands of collectors who would push the tunes in their quirky sets. the opening track, titled “big trouble in little cave” is one that could haunt a techno party in berlin where in the breakdown, things just go out of control and while you think you can’t take anymore, the music takes you back to earth. tests have proven to be used with care, reports indicate some people reacted with a lot of noise. “dérape totale” is perhaps a cross of four tet releasing on raster noton. awkward combo indeed but the strange structure on top of weirdly arranged percussion is set to catch your attention and draw you into an inner journey. with the chance of having manchester’s dncn join him for vocals, pheek goes with his first interpretation of what a pheekie-pop tune could be: fun, intriguing and catchy! >follow the flow< is the closing track and is one build tension with surprising exploding percussion clashes on top of melodic waves.

track 5, a previously unreleased single meant for >the days of mars< album, but ultimately deemed out of place on the record, begins with the slow reveal of a repeating electronic ring atop a rising, falling, sine-curving synth. with each additional layer—a piercing, urgent synthesizer, a deep, continuous, ever-expanding rumble, the sound of a guitar, awash in reverb—the atmosphere thickens. its both restless and placid, anxious and tranquil. just over ten minutes in length, the track closes with a chorus of high-pitched synths that fade to a sparse, darkened end. this 12-inch, very likely gonzalez and russoms last, also features a remix from Âme, comprised of germanys kristian beyer and frank wiedemann. the house duo wholly transforms the a-side into a track so unrecognizable it seems brand new, taking it far from the introspective dreamworld to a dance party in the sweaty, blissed-out, wee hours of the morning

originally released on chain reaction in 1996, pelons >no stunts< harks back to a time when the nowadays so gladly used and over-used term >dub techno< was still waiting to be found. but thats secondary. the main thing is: >no stunts< is here again. with addictive, heavily-transformed and echoed synth sounds connected to a strong and pulsating bass line, it is exactly that type of no-frills techno you just cannot stop listening to. now restored and remastered, the a-side contains an edit taken from the 1998 chain reaction cd >various: compiled…< - previously unavailable on vinyl. as if this wouldnt be enough advocacy for vinyl as the agent of choice, the flipside holds 30 locked grooves extracted from the original recording session of no stunts that you wont necessarily find in the track itself and most definitely not as downloads. especially enjoyable with two copies. the effects can last forever

we would like to say it was all part of a big bombastic plan… the biggest selling bearfunk artist, a top song, the prague philharmonic, 40 piece strings and some great remixes all to celebrate bearfunks 50th release, but alas, it was not! bfk050 is actually the 67th single release on bearfunk. the strings were done in the lunch-break downtime of a session in prague with strings-chappie, john bryan. make good music and occasionally, just occasionally, good things happen to you! so the knife-edge karma of indie record labels flows.

the recent time and space machine album released on tirk caused quite a stir. received by fans, press and pundits with a bright glowing prodigiousness, we just had to have one final foray into the 12 inch single department. the albums title track set >phazer to stun< was always a favourite with pulsating krautrock influences, nicely melded with some dirt cheap farfisa organ, freakbeat drumming and (of course) plenty of phazer.

just when you thought the heat of the summer had disappeared brett johnson and mike shannon team up to light the fire again with the bbq project. delivering some grooves inspired by the warmth of the summer the two legends come together to reflect in the studio and bring you the >my way home ep<.

>les patates<, the fresh new rrygular release by tassilo, one half of pan-pot, is not an homage to french agriculture but a serious techno smasher with high club potential. at first, theres just a nice party atmosphere and … then this rough beat drops in! the small potatoe >petite patate< surprises by adding rudimental elements like the hihat and snare drum always a little late. but you have the feeling you havent missed something yet. this number just sneaks from behind and lulls you in with billowing pads until you sense the final rave sound as a self-evident consequence of it all. the message by g-tech right before the drop proves right - there is not a lack of vibration here! its all about the mixture … and in this case its just felicitous: male choir, clanking cymbals and finally the riff that this track subsists on. tassilo knows how to send the short melody-figure through the different stages of sound design, even though it might have been lively enough without it. this gives the big potatoe >grosse patate< a level of dynamic, that most contemporary techno releases just dont provide.

the owl, like its namesake, sits in the shadows. its deep, dubby bassline lazily rolls along, as our franco-italian alliance layer their percussive elements. string stabs usher in the smooth-keyed break, before that weighty bass drops back in. on the flip, txarco brings a sinister, somewhat industrial brand of funk, provided brilliantly by its growling, predatory bassline. as scything sounds, breathy vocals, and a variety of drums rolls lunge from the darkness, and fade just as quickly, we are constantly guarded by our bassline protector.

claremont 56 seem to have a passion for the unnoticed and the unreleased, digging out gems from the past or oldies from the future. here we have four hands, a band from newcastle who laid this gem down in 1999. sounding distinctly like an adriatic sunset from 20 years previous. from subtle beginnings this track doesnt quite grow, it just drifts beautifully along, from warm pads to a deeper swelling bass, overlaid with delicate strings and languid orchestral touches. four hands deliver a modern day masterpiece, with a timeless woozy morning feeling. this is the warm embrace you need after a few too many the night before. limited edition!

2010 has seen some juicy, off-the-wall techno/electronic vinyl goodies from the head space of little nobody, including the acclaimed >metropolis how?< and >robota< records - with remixes by the likes of james ruskin, justin berkovi, inigo kennedy, dj hi-shock, si begg, patrick pulsinger and steve stoll. but its the originator of the tracks who continues to push the perimeters, recently leading hi-shock, the prolific innovator behind the essential elektrax empire, to suggest that honestly, i think you are at least a couple of years ahead in your musical vision compared to other producers. little nobodys alter ego andrez bergen has also had his head buried this year in the creation of a hardboiled/noir/sci-fi novel called >tobacco-stained mountain goat<, and it was in the midst of this project - with these heady influences - that the get away from it all 12-inch project came to light. thus we got on board bas mooy (planet rhythm/audio assault) and dave tarrida (tresor/musick) to do the two scintillating re-takes here, which are downright brilliant. meanwhile little nobodys troll, on the flip-side, lives up to its claim: its hardboiled and devastatingly dirty electronica. all up, think streetwise, smack-your-glitch-up techno - dark, uber-bassy, dirty and pulsating - just the way we like it, with sardonic samples and a freestyle, postmodern attitude thats invigorating. matched up with the cool artwork by marcin markowski, this is an essential slab of wax for 4:00 am head-caving techno!

the most favourite of italian producers, bottin, returns with an old project. tinpong is a collaboration between bottin and swiss singer joy freypong. these tasty masters were just gathering dust on an old hard disc in venice but when we heard them we just had to get these gems out there.
the first of the tinpong material is a cover version of a duran duran classic. set dials to 1982, >new religion< is of course one of the standout tracks from the classic >rio< album.

for this tune hem and terrible shock take apart an 80s soul lp, add some sci-fi synths, lazy drums and a sprinkling of analogue fx. after many painstaking hours of recording the duo take a well earned coffee break, then return to the studio just in time to see the back of the light-footed blunted robots man shortstuff as he runs off chuckling >your vocals are mine now!<. revenge plans are made, vehicles are fuelled up in preparation ? but these activities are cut short by the arrival of an email from the culprit ? it seems that he took the files back to his hq for what he describes as a refix ? with the engines still running, hem and shox check out the file and find it to be a work of genius ? what they hear is an accelerated kaleidoscopic fusion of on-beat claps and snares in a peak-time northern soul style, super heavy subbass hits and hectic syncopated keyboard chops.

short about the label:. a joint effort between prins thomas and word and sound- the idea behind the label is to put out good music and not limiting ourselves to stick with a specific genre, instead opting to stay fresh and individual with each release going in every direction we feel. we are gonna be highlighting new talent, re-releasing some lesser known nuggets and certainly give you some dancefloor killers along the way to. from japanese techno to california kraut : ) just the way we like it… id love to tell you a lot of things about frank agrario but only a few things are known… his real name is francesco brini he lives in bologna he used to play percussion with swayzak the cheesy italian he is he runs a label called mozzarella recordings(where we also snagged >upgrade<from) last but least, hes handed in two tracks for us. both slightly re-strung in the full pupp k16 lab in oslo, both lethal partystarters now go buy it...

icelandic president bongo, founding member and front shouter of legendary gus gus, meets up with french disco resistance dop, who just released their debut album >greatest hits< with a big orchestral bang. the outcome: a psychopathic dub stomper - >gossip rats< to the dancefloor please!

first on decks .de !!! sa007 sees perc and modern heads create the first collaborations between these two core stroboscopic artefacts artists. the result is a punishing hybrid of percs dubstep tendencies and modern heads cutting techno. a-side >mendax< is cavernous. built upon solid dub foundations, it spills over into grinding, metallic territory. if the titles to be believed it takes inspiration from the shady world of lies and deceit. the atmosphere seems to agree, theres certainly something mendacious at work here. b1 takes the eps atmosphere and adds abrasion. in >percdax< cold, hard percussion is layered over a bed of warm dub. closer >moddax< errs on the eerie. it skulks, is full of sticky bleeps and the result is unnervingly dubbed out. all three track titles share the same suffix and if this indicates that they also share one quality its that theyre best heard in the glinting shadows of a club just before day break. sa007 was craftily mastered by artefacts mastering, berlin.

fifth release on the acclaimed imprint from those lovely people over at the acclaimed sleazybeats blog. the dust just doesnt seem to settle at team sleazy who are set to unleash their fifth dish of mid-tempo filth. sbr005 should likely round out what has undoubtedly been more than a successful year for the sleazy beats crew. as hard as it might seem to upstage their recent sampler, this release by berliner daniel solar (of no more hits and dikso fame) is another trio of totally on point sleazy business which showcases daniels stellar skills. things start off with midfidelity funk, a snappy romp through steady synth and disco string territory. this little number delivers a perfectly spell-binding groove with nicely placed rhodes stabs, crisp tambourines and haunting vocal at the breaks. on the flip, twinkle love snaps out a sweet melange of piano, guitar/bass riff and morphing vocals that combine to give a lively mood and open atmospherics. finally, rounding up the ep is la fleur, a wonky yet punchy cut thats ripe with staunch drum sounds and strings amidst loopy vocal snippets for good measure. all three tracks ride a 110ish bpm groove that is likely to ring bells for those who have been following and digging the sleazy sound so far. the last few releases all sold out in a matter of weeks, so dont sleep on this. you know the drill by now: limited release, no repress.
